On November 14, 2010, co-sponsored by China Science and Technology Ministry, National Energy Administration and US energy department, the Second Steering Committee Meeting of US-China Joint Research Centre of Clean Energy was held in Shanghai Dongjiao State Guest Hotel. The Steering Committee instructs, supervises and evaluates the research activities and directions of the Joint Research Centre. The committee members meet every year while China and U.S. take turns to hold the meeting. In the first session, the member representatives of US-China Joint Research Centre attended the plenary meeting, which meant that Joint Research Centre Project, proposed by the leaders of China and US, had gained the substantial progress.
China Science and Technology Minister Wang Gang, US Energy Secretary Steven Chu and China National Energy Secretary Zhang Guobao delivered the speech in the conference, speaking highly of the efforts of both counties. They were confident that cooperation among universities, research institutions and enterprises will lead to the achievements in the research areas of clean coal, clean energy vehicles and energy-saving buildings. As the alliance member, Zhejiang University sent Luo Zhongwen, Distinguished Professor of Changjiang, Dean of Energy ENgineering Department of Zhejiang University and Director of State Key Laboratory of Clean energy utilization to the conference, during which Professor Luo exchanged views with US energy secretary Steven Chu. After the first session, ministers had a closed-door discussion.
